Finished Bedroom!

 The Finished closet. I found this mirrored vanity at Home Goods on clearance for $30! A couple of the mirror pieces are cracked, but honestly it's hardly noticeable.

 Starting on the floor. I used Ikea flooring. I LOVE it! I bought the Slatten laminated flooring and it is only $0.65 / sq foot! Amazing.

 It was a little frustrating at first. A few tips; 1. clean out the grooves with a brush before trying to slide the pieces together. 2. Measuring and leaving only a small gap between the wall and flooring is difficult (at least for me) to judge. Always make it a tiny bit bigger than you think it should be. You can always cut it again if the piece is still too big. 3. Store the boxes of laminate flat on the ground. I didn't realize this and had they standing against the wall and a few pieces got warped.

 There was just one corner that gave me some grief. We had to cut it with a hand saw and as you can see, my monkey toes came in handy.

 All finished! I am thrilled with how it turned out. I can't wait to do the rest of my house.

 I was touching up the paint and my cat decided to sit right in the paint tray! Kids.

 Feeling more like a room! This is the Malm dresser from Ikea.

I thought I would want my vanity in the closet, but closet space for clothes was more important. I love my picture collage with mementos.

Remodel Update 3

I took these pictures with my phone so they aren't the best. I absolutely love the color! It makes me so happy to be in the room!

 More walls painted. At first I was really discouraged with how it was turning out. Everything is just so messy.

After getting the trim all painted, I knew it would make a huge difference.
For the trim, I ended up using wood paneling I got at Lowe's! It came in a pack of 6, 8 foot long pieces for $16. I used Liquid Nails and glued it up.

I love how it turned out. It needs some touch up but I'm happy to finally see it coming together!

As soon as all the painting was done, I was so done with the carpet.

It was super gross under the carpet. All dusty and yucky. Everything looked good and sturdy though. Hardwood floors from Ikea next!

Remodel Update

I washed the walls and used an oil based primer on the wood paneling. Oh man, oil based primer stinks! It is so terrible. I couldn't be in there too long or I would get a terrible headache and be sick to my stomach. Aside from that, it coated the walls very well and brightened the room incredibly!

The closet is very deep, so I decided I would make it into my vanity. The bathroom is so small and there is very little counter space, this is genius to get all of my stuff out of there. Now I can have my own space for all my junk! :) Every girl's dream.
 
I was inspired by Orla Kiely's twig design to paint in the closet.


I began painting the closet by hand in this design. I did one wall and it took me 10 hours!

That really wasn't going to work for me so my genius sister-in-law, helped me make a stencil of the wall I had already done. We finished the other 2 walls in a fraction of the time.

I love the built in shelves along the side. I will be able to store a lot of stuff in there. The canisters already on the shelf, I got on clearance at Ikea. They match so perfectly for the look I want.

Remodelling

In September 2009 my husband and I bought our first house.

Isn't it cute?! I love it. The only thing I don't love is how dark it is inside thanks to all of the wood paneling.  There was only one previous owner and he built the house in 1937. Needless to say its pretty dated and has home quirky things to work around.
We started with our bedroom downstairs but decided that's not going to work. The goal is to move the bedroom upstairs where the computer room is currently and make the downstairs and office/craft room.
Status of room upstairs, to be bedroom:
This is after moving out all of my craft supplies and all of the random junk that got thrown in here. Trust me. It was a lot.
